About Us

Now that we are embracing the Common Core State Standards initiative there is a major shift in the instructional focus for ELA and Literacy in history/S.S, science, and technical subjects especially at the secondary level. We have formed a district Disciplinary Literacy committee to help extend instructional practices and effective literacy practices across content areas as well as align curricula and resources. The CCSS for text complexity, reading informational text to build disciplinary knowledge, and an interdisciplinary approach to literacy development are three areas that content area teachers will need support with. As a district we need to move towards a more rigorous approach to literacy development and a shared responsibility for all of our students.
